ACTIVATING EXISTING RESOURCES WITH A NEIGHBOUR HUB.
Our second installation was built in collaboration with the Thingery, a local “lending library of things”, situated alongside the popular Arbutus Greenway in Vancouver.
This creative installation provides the opportunity for those passing by to engage in the production of kinetic energy through a hand crank to charge cell phones. The welcoming seating area hosts a bulletin board, allowing the community to share information.
Neighbour Lab, along with the Thingery founder Chris Diplock, hope that this collaboration will help activate an existing community resource, providing benefits to the neighbourhood both daily and in the case of an emergency.
In the near future, Neighbour Lab and the Thingery plan to host engagement workshops to begin to facilitate a dialogue around emergency preparedness in Kitsilano.

Neighbour Hub 002 sits alongside the Thingery in Kitsilano, Vancouver on the the unceded indigenous land of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil Waututh) peoples.
